Love, relationship, betrayal: Odisha Police inspector arrested

A police inspector was arrested after a woman sub-inspector filed a serious complaint alleging rape under the false promise of marriage. The accused, who was recently promoted from Sub-Inspector to Inspector, is now facing charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rape and cheating.

According to the complaint, the woman officer and the accused had been in a relationship for the last eight years. During this period, the inspector had allegedly established a physical relationship with her by repeatedly assuring that he would marry her. Trusting his promise, the woman claims she remained emotionally and physically involved with him.

However, over time, she realised that the accused had no intention of marrying her and was allegedly misusing her trust. Despite several discussions and reminders, he continued to delay marriage, citing various excuses. When the woman finally confronted him, he reportedly refused to fulfil his commitment.

Feeling betrayed, emotionally harassed, and misled, the woman officer decided to take legal action. She lodged a formal FIR, following which a detailed investigation was initiated. Based on preliminary evidence, the inspector was arrested.

This incident has raised serious concerns within the police department, especially as both individuals were serving officers. Senior police officials have confirmed the arrest and stated that the matter is being investigated thoroughly. The accused officer has been suspended pending inquiry, and departmental proceedings may also follow based on the findings.

The case has triggered wider debate about gender sensitivity and abuse of power within the force. Police authorities have assured that the matter will be handled with complete transparency and according to the law.
