Land dispute turns violent; bomb attack leaves two injured in Odisha’s Puri

A land dispute in Puri’s Kalapadar village turned violent as a crude bomb injured two people. Police have secured the area, detained one suspect, and launched an investigation to prevent further escalation.

Tension prevailed in parts of Puri district on Friday after a land dispute between family members escalated into a crude bomb attack, leaving two persons injured. The incident occurred at Kalapadar village under Gadisagoda police station limits.

According to local sources, two brothers—Jagu Pradhan and Sarbeswar Pradhan—have been engaged in a long-standing dispute over land ownership. Amid the ongoing conflict, another family member, identified as Tulu Pradhan, allegedly hurled a crude bomb in the village on Friday morning.

The explosion left two people with minor injuries. Locals rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment, and their condition was stated to be stable.

On being informed about the incident, police rushed to the spot, secured the area and registered a case in connection with the bombing. One person has been detained for questioning, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and collect evidence.

Police officials said steps are being taken to prevent further escalation of tension in the village, and strict action will be initiated against those found involved.

“I received a phone call at around 7 am informing me about a bombing incident in Kalapadar village in which two persons sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital. The injured later reached the police station,” Gadisagoda police station IIC Sudhir Das said.

“The accused, Tulu Pradhan, has alleged that he was not given an adequate share of the land and was unable to irrigate his farmland due to the property dispute,” the IIC added.
