Thirty Cameras Installed in Phase One

According to the Ranger, thirty AI cameras have been set up in the first phase of implementation. These advanced devices are capable of capturing video footage within a one-kilometre radius, significantly enhancing surveillance across vulnerable zones inside the sanctuary. The system is designed to promptly alert authorities if suspicious movement or tampering is detected.

“We now have an AI-based camera system with 24-hour recording capability, consisting of 30 cameras. Some minor work remains, but the system is largely ready. These AI cameras will allow us to detect poachers the moment they enter the sanctuary from the Nilagiri side, which will greatly assist us in apprehending them. Earlier, poachers often damaged the trap cameras, but this new technology will capture every movement and activity, making it extremely difficult for anyone to evade detection. This is a clear warning to poachers if you touch or tamper with these AI cameras, your picture will be captured, giving us prime evidence to take swift action. Unlike traditional trap cameras, which were at risk of being stolen, the AI cameras offer far better security and reliability,” said Subat Behera, Ranger, Kuldiha.

Full Operation from Tomorrow

The Ranger further informed that the cameras will become fully operational from tomorrow. Once activated, the AI-enabled monitoring system is expected to serve as a strong deterrent against illegal activities and support forest staff in responding swiftly to potential threats.

The introduction of AI surveillance marks a promising step in safeguarding wildlife in Kuldiha. With enhanced monitoring and real-time alerts, forest officials hope to curb poaching attempts and strengthen conservation efforts within the protected area.
