Odisha continues to reel under severe cold conditions, with interior pockets of Kandhamal district witnessing a sharp and sustained drop in temperatures. The prolonged cold wave has disrupted normal life, particularly in Daringbadi, often referred to as the Kashmir of Odisha.

Sub-zero-like conditions in the region have led to ground frost in several areas, adding to the chill and discomfort for residents.

Temperatures Dip to Seasonal Lows

The cold wave shows no signs of abating. On Thursday, G. Udayagiri recorded the lowest temperature of the season at 4 degrees Celsius. Phulbani registered a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees Celsius, while Daringbadi recorded 7 degrees Celsius.

The plunging mercury has resulted in intense cold across multiple parts of Kandhamal, forcing residents to depend heavily on bonfires and other heating arrangements as daily activities slow down.

Residents Struggle to Cope with Cold Nights

Local residents have described the conditions as increasingly harsh. A resident of Daringbadi said the temperature had fallen sharply over the past two days, making it difficult to sleep even with warm clothing and multiple blankets.

“The cold has become unbearable at night. Even stepping outside has become difficult,” the resident said.
