Odisha continues to reel under severe cold conditions, with a widespread cold wave gripping the state and pushing temperatures sharply downward in multiple regions.

Odisha continues to reel under severe cold conditions, with a widespread cold wave gripping the state and pushing temperatures sharply downward in multiple regions. According to the Meteorological Centre, dry weather is expected to prevail across the state till December 17, even as several districts recorded their lowest temperatures of the season.

Jharsuguda and Sundargarh in north interior Odisha, Koraput and Nabarangpur in southern Odisha, and Mayurbhanj in northern Odisha reported a notable decline in temperature over the past 24 hours. Jharsuguda, in particular, experienced intense cold, with the mercury dropping to 8.8 degrees Celsius by 5:30 am on Friday. In Bhubaneswar, the temperature rose slightly compared to previous days, with the capital recording 14 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am.

Several Districts Record Sharp Dip

The cold wave conditions were more pronounced in Kandhamal district, where G. Udayagiri recorded a minimum temperature of 3.1 degrees Celsius. Semiliguda in Koraput also witnessed severe cold, with temperatures touching 3.6 degrees Celsius.

Several other regions reported significantly low temperatures; Jharsuguda - 7.1°C, Rourkela - 7.2°C, Keonjhar - 9.6°C, Sambalpur - 10.8°C, Hirakud - 11.4°C, Bhubaneswar - 12.6°C, Gopalpur - 13.4°C, Balasore - 13.5°C, and Paradip - 14.1°C.
