Bhubaneswar: A junior doctor of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar is among four persons that have tested positive for COVID-19 in the capital city, official sources said on Thursday.

As per the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), a total of four new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. One of the cases (home quarantine) is linked to an earlier reported positive case from Kalinga Vihar area.

The third case is from Aiginia, Patrapada area, while the other COVID-19 positive case belongs to Dumduma area and is said to be the secondary contact of one of the earlier positive cases from Kalinga Vihar area, BMC officials said.

BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary informed that out of the total 4 new COVID-19 cases, two are linked to previous cases.

“After detection of the cases, 50 to 60 houses in the proximity have been asked to remain under home quarantine,” said Chaudhary adding that the total COVID-19 active cases in Bhubaneswar now stands at 14.

While 51 persons have recuperated from COVID-19, three persons have died due to the infection in Bhubaneswar so far, he added.

Earlier, six persons including four doctors and two attendants of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) -Bhubaneswar were sent on mandatory quarantine after they came in contact with a COVID-19 patient in Odisha last month. The COVID-19 patient, a truck driver from Maharashtra, was rushed to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar after sustaining critical injuries in a road mishap. Subsequently, the truck driver’s swab samples were sent for tests and he was found COVID-19 positive.

In another incident today, a staff nurse posted at Nayagarh district headquarters hospital has also tested positive for COVID-19. The concerned staff nurse’s swab samples were earlier sent for tests and the reports came positive yesterday, informed Nayagarh CDMO Sudhanshu Sarangi.

Sarangi further informed that the entire hospital has been sanitised and all the other staff and patients who came in contact with the staff nurse have been put under quarantine.
