An unusual incident unfolded in Aiginia locality under Khandagiri police limits, where a man lost his life on Tuesday after a roadside hoarding suddenly collapsed during rain and strong winds in the afternoon.

According to sources, the victim had taken shelter beneath the hoarding amid inclement weather. However, the iron structure unexpectedly gave way and fell on him, leading to his death at the scene.
On being informed following the incident, the police reached the spot and recovered the body. It was later sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for post-mortem.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety and structural stability of roadside hoardings, especially during adverse weather conditions.
However, no comments were received from the local police in this regard.
Worth mentioning, in another incident today, two workers lost their lives after a boundary wall collapsed during ongoing drain construction work at Bhoisahi in the Badagada locality of Bhubaneswar. The sudden collapse also left four others critically injured, triggering panic at the site.
The injured workers were immediately rushed to Capital Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. A specialised medical team is closely monitoring their condition and making all efforts to stabilise them.
Sources indicate that the injured may be shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar or SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack if advanced treatment becomes necessary.
The IMD regional centre had issued a nowcast warning earlier today, indicating that light to moderate thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and light rainfall, were to occur at one or two places across some districts of Odisha.
Under the ‘Yellow Warning – Be Aware’ category, residents had been advised to remain vigilant and monitor weather conditions closely. The meteorological centre had urged people to be prepared to move to safer places in case of lightning activity to avoid potential lightning strikes.
A spell of rain was witnessed in the Capital City in the afternoon.
