In a tragic incident, two workers lost their lives on Tuesday after a boundary wall collapsed during ongoing drain construction work at Bhoisahi in Badagada, Bhubaneswar. The sudden collapse also left four others critically injured, triggering panic at the site.
According to preliminary information, the mishap occurred while drain construction was underway. The boundary wall, reportedly adjacent to the work area, gave way and fell on the labourers engaged in the project. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the work may have been carried out under unsafe conditions, raising serious concerns about negligence and lack of proper safety measures.
The injured workers were immediately rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where they are currently undergoing treatment. A specialised medical team is closely monitoring their condition and making all efforts to stabilise them. Sources indicate that the injured may be shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar or SCB Medical College and Hospital if advanced treatment becomes necessary.

Police personnel from Badagada Police Station reached the spot soon after receiving information and have begun an inquiry into the incident. The bodies of the deceased workers will be sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the collapse and determine whether safety protocols were followed at the construction site.
Serious questions are now being raised about why labourers were allowed to work in potentially hazardous conditions and whether adequate precautions were in place. Initial inputs suggest that no proper safety measures were implemented during the drain construction work.
As the investigation continues, the tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the critical importance of strict adherence to construction safety norms to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
