Hit-and-run on NH-16 in Odisha’s Khordha claims lives of two youths

Two young men were killed in a hit-and-run accident involving an unidentified vehicle near Dadhimachagadia Chhak on National Highway-16, under Khordha Sadar police limits in Odisha, on Friday morning.

According to police and local sources, the incident occurred when the victims were travelling on a scooter from Banapur Sanahantuad towards Bhubaneswar. The deceased have been identified as Bikash Baral (20) and Subhranshu Sundaray (21). Both sustained critical injuries in the collision and were declared dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings suggest that the impact was severe, leaving the scooter completely mangled. The two youths were reportedly on their way to attend a job interview when an unknown vehicle allegedly hit them and fled the scene.

Police Response and Probe

Following the incident, police rushed to the location, secured the accident site, and seized the bodies. The remains were later sent to the Khordha District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have also traced the registration number of the scooter involved in the accident.

The families of the deceased were informed immediately, and relatives later arrived at the police station after receiving the information.

CCTV Footage Being Examined

Police officials said efforts are underway to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scrutinised to track the offending vehicle and reconstruct the sequence of events.

Investigators are also recording statements from family members to establish the timeline of the victims’ movement and confirm their destination. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
