10 injured in head-on collision between bus and pickup van in Ganjam Photograph: (OTV)
More than ten people were injured in a road accident at Jhatipitia under Digapahandi police station in Ganjam district on Sunday. According to reports, the accident occurred when a passenger mini bus carrying over 20 passengers collided head-on with a pickup van loaded with dried fish.
More than 15 people sustained injuries in the accident, while two to three victims were reported to be in critical condition.
Preliminary findings indicate that over-speeding and rash driving could be the primary causes of the mishap. The impact of the collision was so severe, leaving the front portions of both vehicles extensively damaged, with the pickup van overturning at the accident site.
Following the collision, locals rushed to the spot and alerted the police and fire service department. The Digapahandi police and rescue teams acted promptly and carried out the rescue operations. Both drivers have sustained severe injuries and will be shifted to Behrampur Medical.

All the injured persons are undergoing treatment at Digapahandi Hospital, and critically injured persons are shifted to the MKCG (Berhampur) Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
No fatalities have been reported so far, though passengers were left terrified after the crash. Police are examining the scene to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
