Located on the way from Berhampur to Buratal in Patrapur block, the waterfall greets tourists with streams of crystal-clear water gushing over large and small rocks. Thousands visit the spot, especially on holidays, to relax in the cool mountain waters flowing down from the Mahendragiri hills. Many youth say spending time here offers a refreshing escape from daily work pressure.

Adding to the site’s uniqueness is a nearby shrine housing a Barahi idol. Locals share a fascinating tale, tribal hunters once killed a wild boar in this region, but the animal mysteriously turned into stone. Later, an idol of Barahi was brought from Srikakulam and installed at the spot, and villagers continue to worship it to this day.

Despite the rising tourist footfall, basic amenities remain absent. Visitors from distant places face significant inconvenience due to the lack of facilities. Residents point out that Patrapur region is home to several waterfalls besides Bariapathara, all of which hold great tourism potential if developed properly.

“This place is very clean and I enjoyed with my friends. But, I request the government to develop the site to make it more attractive for the tourists,” said Rahul Sethi, a tourist.

Chikiti MLA Manoranjan Dyan Samantara said that the issue has already been brought to the tourism department’s notice and a DPR (Detailed Project Report) has been prepared and submitted for the development of these natural sites.
