A woman constable, identified as Rajani Majhi, went beyond her line of duty by caring for an infant while ensuring exam security.

According to reports, a female candidate identified as Bhairavi Mandal had come to the centre to appear for the RI and Amin recruitment examinations. She arrived with her one-and-a-half-month-old baby boy, whom she handed over to her husband before entering the exam hall. However, as the infant began crying uncontrollably, Bhairavi became anxious and decided not to appear for the test.

Seeing her distress, Constable Rajani, who was on duty at the centre, stepped in to help. She assured Bhairavi to focus on her exam and took the baby into her care. For nearly two hours, while Bhairavi wrote her paper, Rajani held and comforted the baby boy in her arms.

What made the gesture even more remarkable was that Rajani herself is a mother to a nine-month-old baby boy. Out of maternal compassion, she even breastfed Bhairavi’s infant during the exam. After completing her test, an emotional Bhairavi thanked the constable for her extraordinary act of kindness.

Rajani’s selfless gesture has since drawn widespread praise, symbolising true humanity and compassion in uniform.

"The woman (Bhairavi) was in a dilemma whether to appear in the examination or not, as the baby was crying. I asked her to appear in the examination and assured her that take care of the baby. I felt her problems as I also have a nine-month-old baby boy. Hence, I asked her to focus on the examination and assured her that I would take care of the baby. As I am a mother, I know how to take care of the baby. I asked him to appear in the examination by promising that I would breastfeed the infant if he got hungry," said Constable Rajani.
