Asha, serving as a Home Guard, hails from the Sundargarh district of Odisha. Wearing her uniform and carrying her child close in a baby carrier, she performs what can only be described as a 'double duty'. She manages traffic on busy roads while tenderly caring for her infant. Her dedication speaks louder than words.

“Earlier, my husband used to help me. However, after his accident, I was forced to carry my child with me during duty hours. The child is very small and needs care and attention,” said Asha.

The remarkable scene unfolds daily at the bustling Space Square, under the jurisdiction of Chhend Police Station in Rourkela. Commuters are often surprised and deeply moved to see Asha managing traffic with one hand while holding her baby with the other. Some stop to talk to her, while others silently salute her courage.

“When I cross the area, I see her on duty carrying her baby. As it is a busy street, she performs her duty with full sincerity. There must be nobody at home to look after the child. As a mother, she is compelled to bring her baby along,” said Salila, a resident of Rourkela.

From 6 am to 2 pm every day, Asha carries out her responsibilities diligently, as there is no one at home to care for her child. Her husband, who was injured in a road accident, is bedridden, leaving her with no other option but to bring the baby along.

Even amid such hardship, Asha’s unwavering commitment to her duty has earned admiration from her colleagues and superiors alike. Her department not only praises her dedication but also extends help whenever needed.

“I always see her on duty whenever I cross the road. I feel inspired, as she manages both her duty and motherhood - a truly difficult task. She is an inspiration to one and all,” said Rashmita Mishra, another resident of Rourkela.

Asha stands as a shining symbol of resilience and strength - a mother, a protector, and an inspiration to society.
