Authorities in Malkangiri district have imposed BNS-163 across a 10-kilometre perimeter spanning MV-26 and Rakhelguda villages following escalating tension between the two communities. Additionally, the residential school located in MV-26 has been declared closed for four days as a precautionary measure while the situation remains under observation.

The unrest erupted after a headless body of a woman from Rakhelguda was recovered near the Dudumetla river.

Reports indicate that the woman had been missing for several days, with a complaint filed at the Korukonda police station the previous Wednesday. Villagers from Rakhelguda have alleged that residents from MV-26 were responsible for the killing, prompting confrontations and heightened fear in both villages.

Property Damage And Arson Reported

Sources reported that following the recovery of the body, a group allegedly entered several homes in MV-26, causing damage to household property and setting vehicles on fire. Some houses were reportedly partially destroyed, and items inside were broken or looted.

Police personnel were immediately deployed in MV-26 to bring the situation under control and prevent further escalation. Security forces have maintained a presence in the area, and officials are closely monitoring both villages under the BNS-163 restrictions.

Ongoing Investigation

As of Monday morning, authorities continue their efforts to investigate the incident, including locating the missing head of the deceased. Police from Korukonda and surrounding areas are coordinating to ensure safety while the enquiry proceeds.

As of now, no arrests have been officially reported, and the BNS-163 restrictions remain in effect until further notice.
