The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday officially announced its two candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. BJD President and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared Santrupt Misra and Dr. Datteswar Hota as representatives of the conch party in the upper house of Parliament.

Known for his expertise in handling complex and critical surgical cases, Dr. Hota has made remarkable contributions to the advancement of urological and transplant services in the state.

Illustrious Career

During his illustrious career, Dr. Hota has served as the Head of the Department of Urology at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, one of the premier government medical institutions in Odisha. Under his leadership, the department witnessed significant growth in terms of advanced treatment facilities and surgical capabilities. He later served as the Principal of SCB Medical College, playing a key administrative role in strengthening academic and healthcare services.

Dr. Hota also holds the distinction of being the first Vice-Chancellor of the Odisha University of Health Sciences, where he contributed to shaping medical education and healthcare training across the state. His efforts were instrumental in the establishment and development of kidney transplant and liver transplant units, expanding access to life-saving procedures for patients in Odisha.

40 Years of Dedicated Service

With over 40 years of dedicated service, Dr. Datteswar Hota’s contribution to complex surgeries and modern urological care remains unparalleled, earning him deep respect in the medical fraternity and among patients alike.

“My request is to every member of the Assembly, who are of the thought that we can do something in togetherness, then pls co-operate and help me to take our state forward at the national level. I have told everyone and will personally visit again and tell them that this is my background, this is my qualification, and this is my aim. I will request them all. My life will be fruitful if I use my expertise and do something. My contribution to the state through medical practice will continue, and there is no stopping it. I conduct health camps in isolated and neglected tribal-dominated areas and will continue to do so,” Hota told media persons after the announcement.
