From laughter to discord: Mr Gulua-Barsha marital rift goes public

They fell in love, got married, and rose to fame by making people laugh through social media. But, the same couple is facing public ridicule these days as their personal life unravels in full public view. It is the much-discussed family dispute involving popular comedian couple Ashish Das aka Mr Gulua and Barsha.

The controversy erupted after Barsha levelled serious allegations against her husband. Appearing on OTV on Wednesday, Mr Gulua made a dramatic admission, acknowledging that he was involved in an extramarital relationship. The revelation has shocked fans and sparked a broader debate on why celebrity relationships often fail and why domestic disputes are increasingly played out on social media rather than resolved privately or through legal channels.

Once admired for their chemistry both on and off screen, Mr Gulua and Barsha’s decade-long love story has come to a bitter end. Since yesterday, the couple has been at the centre of a heated controversy, exchanging serious allegations against each other in the public domain.

Barsha has accused Mr Gulua of infidelity, claiming that his relationship with other women destroyed their married life. She alleged that she faced harassment and held Mr Gulua directly responsible for the collapse of their relationship. Breaking down on OTV, Barsha narrated her ordeal, which she said had been brewing for a long time.

Gulua, however, countered her claims with accusations of his own. While admitting on television that he was involved in another relationship, he denied responsibility for all the allegations levelled against him.

Following the fallout, the couple has been living separately for a considerable period, though they are not yet legally divorced. Barsha has reportedly demanded Rs 50 lakh. This demand has further intensified the dispute.

Reacting to Barsha’s allegations, Mr Gulua’s father, Jatindra Mohan Das, strongly denied the claims and alleged that a conspiracy was being plotted to falsely implicate his son. He asserted that Gulua has no relationship with any other woman, contradicting his son’s own admission.

"It is a big conspiracy only to falsely implicate my son. I have never received a single rupee and any gift from them. I have also never demanded anything from them. My son has no illegal relationships," said Mr Gulua’s father, Jatindra Mohan Das.

According to Mr Gulua’s associates, the discord between the couple has worsened over the past eight months. Despite continuing to work together on shoots during this period, Mr Gulua and Barsha were living separately.

"They had often quarrels. However, those quarrels were solved within no time. I pray to God that the rift between them will be solved and they will live together once again," said Suresh Behera, an associate comedian of Mr Gulua.

The public breakdown of the once-beloved comedy duo has raised several questions. Why do celebrity relationships often fail to withstand fame and pressure? Does popularity change people?

"They should not bring their personal quarrel to the public through social media. It is not a good message to the society. What kind of message they want to give to the youths through this act?" asked social worker Rutuparna Mohanty.

"There are no criminal liabilities in this case. He (Mr Gulua) has made the confession. His wife can proceed with the case if she has evidences. His wife will get an opportunity to file a divorce case. If the honourable court wants, divorce could be granted on this ground," said lawyer Bibhuti Bhusana Choudhury.

As the controversy continues to unfold, fans and observers alike are watching closely to see what direction this high-profile relationship will take in the coming days.
