On this occasion, the moon will be positioned at a distance of approximately 3.62 lakh kilometres from the earth, bringing it significantly closer than usual. As a result, the full Moon will appear about 14 per cent larger and nearly 30 per cent brighter compared to an average full moon, creating a striking visual experience in the night sky.

Astronomy enthusiasts will have more opportunities to enjoy similar sights later in the year. Two more supermoons are expected before the end of the year - the second on November 24 and the third on December 23.

In contrast, micromoons, also known as smaller-looking moons, will be visible on May 1, May 31, and June 29. During these events, the moon will appear smaller as it is farther away from the earth, yet they too offer beautiful and fascinating celestial views.

Experts clarify that a supermoon is a natural astronomical phenomenon and has no adverse impact on the earth or human life. The term 'supermoon' was first introduced in 1979 by American astrologer Richard Nolle. Scientifically, a full moon is referred to as a supermoon when it occurs at a distance of 3.63 lakh kilometres or less from the Earth.

With clear skies, tomorrow’s supermoon promises a stunning cosmic display, offering a perfect opportunity for the public to admire the wonders of the universe.
