Comet C/2023 A3
In an exhilarating experience, students and people having an interest in astronomy witnessed a rare celestial event in the wee hours of Tuesday.
For a brief period, comet C/2023 A3 was seen in the sky in some places of the country including Odisha. This rare phenomenon occurred after a gap of 80,000 years.
In Bhubaneswar, photographer Rakesh Roul captured this celestial event in his lens.
The comet could be viewed with common telescopes and binoculars. Most importantly, this comet can be viewed once again between October 15 and October 20 and it is expected that it can be viewed by the naked eye.
On October 12, its distance from the earth will be the nearest and it will be 7 crore kilometers away from the earth.
On October 15 evening, the comet can be seen about 16 degrees above the western horizon.
