A gruesome incident rattled Katapali village under Belpada Police Station in Odisha's Bolangir district, where a man allegedly set his wife on fire after pouring petrol on her. The victim reportedly died after the incident. The incident occurred on Friday, sending shock and grief across the locality.
The victim has been identified as Kulabati Parua, the wife of the accused man.
According to reports, Kulabati had been married for three years and was subjected to frequent violence at home over various reasons. Her husband, reportedly a habitual drunkard, often tortured her under the influence of alcohol.

The victim’s family has filed a formal complaint, alleging regular domestic violence and holding the husband directly responsible for her death. Kulabati’s mother told police that her daughter had spoken to her the night before her death, expressing fear due to the ongoing harassment. She has firmly maintained that this is a case of cold-blooded murder, not an accident.
"My daughter's life has gone. She is dead. At least, the police officials should now act and give justice to our daughter," said a teary-eyed mother of the deceased woman.
Police recovered Kulabati’s half-burnt body from the scene and have detained the accused husband for questioning. Forensic samples have been sent for analysis, and authorities are awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports to confirm the exact cause of death.
A detailed investigation is currently underway.
