Bhubaneswar: Panic prevailed near Rajmahal Square in Bhubaneswar after an intoxicated man allegedly sat on the railway track and brought a Vande Bharat train to a halt, raising serious concerns over railway safety and security.

According to sources, the incident occurred when the Vande Bharat train was approaching Bhubaneswar railway station. After the man was spotted sitting on the track, railway authorities immediately stopped the train as a precautionary measure to avert any untoward incident. The train remained halted for some time, during which passengers were kept safe.

Reports said the youth remained seated on the track for nearly 45 minutes, creating panic among passengers and railway staff. The train was reportedly moving at a slow speed at the time, which helped prevent a major mishap.

RPF, GRP Detain Accused

On receiving information, personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the spot and overpowered the intoxicated man. The accused, reportedly a resident of the Phalikia slum area, was detained and taken away for questioning.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Railway officials said the reckless act disrupted train movement temporarily and highlighted the need for stricter monitoring and security along railway tracks. The incident has once again raised concerns about public safety and unauthorised access to railway lines.
