Domestic violence: Intoxicated man attacks wife with axe, leaves her battling for life

A woman sustained serious injuries after her husband allegedly tried to kill her following a domestic dispute at the Paradip Cinema Hall Basti area on Saturday. The intoxicated man reportedly attacked his wife with an axe before fleeing the scene, leaving her in a pool of blood.

The victim, identified as Nandini Malik, sustained grievous injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed to Atharabanki Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Hospital sources said her condition remains critical. Locals in the area raised an alarm after hearing the woman’s screams and informed the police.

Alcohol addiction triggered outburst

According to preliminary information, the couple originally hails from Jajpur district and has been residing in Paradip in a rented accommodation for livelihood purposes. Police sources suspect that frequent quarrels and the husband’s alcohol addiction triggered the violent outburst.

“After getting drunk, he fails to recognise and attacks me. Today morning, I told him that I would go to my parent’s home. He felt insulted as I said it in front of all the people. I did not know he would get serious and attack me. He was holding an axe and attacked me. I cried for help saying ‘I would die’, but he said he would first kill me and then kill himself,” alleged Nandini Malik, wife of the accused.

Upon receiving information, police personnel reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The crime scene was inspected, and statements of neighbours and eyewitnesses have been recorded.

A search operation has been launched to trace the absconding accused, who fled immediately after the attack.

Police officials said strict action would be taken once the accused is apprehended and a further investigation is underway.
