According to official recordings, Daringbadi registered a minimum temperature of 11.5 degrees on Tuesday, while G. Udayagiri recorded 12.4 degrees and Phulbani recorded 15 degrees Celsius.

Although cloudy skies provided slight relief from the biting cold, freezing winds and dense fog created difficulties for residents, reportedly.

Vehicular movement was affected in many areas, with visibility significantly reduced during early hours. In several areas, the fog was so dense in the morning that people could not clearly see one another even from a distance of 5 to 6 metres.

Reports from the district indicate that thick fog continued to blanket parts of Kandhamal even after 08:00 am on Wednesday and reportedly persist till around 10:00 am daily.

The low visibility, coupled with the chill made driving conditions challenging, raising concerns about the increased risk of road accidents.

Despite the cloud cover prevailing through the day, temperatures drop further once the sun sets, causing the cold to intensify and persist throughout the night until late the next morning.

In response to the severe weather, locals have begun gathering around bonfires to keep warm while others are reportedly stepping out for regular exercise to stay active and make the most of the early morning winter chill.
