Cuttack violence: Three more arrested, total reaches 9

Three more people were arrested in connection with recent violence during a Dussehra procession in Cuttack, raising the total arrests to nine. Police continue probing the Hatipokhari and Kadam Rasul areas under tight security, with more arrests expected.

Three more persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the recent violence in Odisha’s Cuttack, bringing the total number of arrests to nine. This was confirmed by ACP Girija Shankar Chakrabarty, who also stated that more arrests would follow in the days ahead as the investigation progresses.

Commissionerate Police has been thoroughly probing the incident, especially in Hatipokhari and Kadam Rasul localities, where tensions had escalated during the immersion procession. Several senior officials have been deployed, including two Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), three Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs), along with a heavy presence of police forces.

Furthermore, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are assisting local authorities to maintain law and order and ensure that peace is restored in the affected localities. The situation remains under close watch, and officials have not ruled out the possibility of more detentions in the coming days.

“We have taken the clash very seriously, which had occurred at night during the Dussehra idol immersion procession under Cuttack UPD. Investigation of the incident was also initiated and expedited under the leadership of DCP Sir,” ACP Chakrabarty said to OTV.

“Six persons involved in the incident had been identified and arrested, and forwarded to court. Today, in the morning, three more people were identified and arrested. With this, the total number of arrests has reached nine,” the ACP stated when contacted.

“As part of the investigation, a house search of the suspects was being carried out. We had information that arms and ammunition were kept at their homes,” the ACP added.

Worth mentioning, two groups clashed during the immersion procession, leading to tension in some localities of the city. Four people, including DCP, were injured in the clash.
