Cuttack clash: Commissionerate Police begins probe, troublemakers' houses raided Photograph: (OTV)
The Commissionerate Police, along with the Central Force, on Thursday launched a detailed probe into the group clash incident that broke out during the Goddess Durga idol immersion ceremony in Cuttack’s Dargha Bazaar area on October 3.
According to sources, a massive security deployment has been made in the area to prevent an untoward incident during the investigation. Two ACPs and three IICs, along with a large contingent of police personnel, have been stationed at the locations.
In addition, central paramilitary forces have been deployed to assist the Commissionerate Police in maintaining law and order and conducting area checks, sources added.
In addition to the previous six arrests in connection with the group clash incident, the police have picked up six more persons, suspecting their involvement in the incident. Similarly, 23 persons were arrested in connection with the clash post-immersion ceremony and the number is expected to rise further.
“We have taken the group clash matter very seriously. The investigation has begun. We have arrested six persons and today three more have been arrested. They have been forwarded to court. Several houses were searched,” said ACP Girija Chakraborty.
The Cuttack Clash:
Two groups clashed during the immersion procession, leading to tension in the locality. While four people were injured in the clash, the police have arrested eight people in connection with the case. Several police officers, including the DCP, were injured in the clash.

Following the clash, a 36-hour curfew and a 48-hour internet suspension were imposed in the city.
