The Odisha Home Department on Monday extended the temporary suspension of internet services in Cuttack City for another 24 hours, citing apprehensions of potential misuse by anti-social elements to spread misinformation and disturb public peace.
As per the official notification (No. 41832/CP&M), the order will remain in effect from 7 PM on October 6 to 7 PM on October 7, 2025, covering key areas under the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Cuttack Development Authority (CDA), and 42 Mauza regions.
Move to Prevent Rumour-Mongering
The decision follows a recommendation from the Collector and District Magistrate of Cuttack, who warned that certain groups might use the internet to circulate objectionable content and incite communal tension. The government stated that the suspension is aimed at maintaining law and order, communal harmony, and public tranquility.

Services Affected
The order directs all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and mobile operators to block access to mobile data, broadband, and social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Instagram, and Snapchat during the suspension period.
However, government and essential services — including OSWAN, NIC Net, NKN, banking, and railways — will remain unaffected.
Strict Action for Violations
The Home Department has warned that any violation of the order will invite action under the Telecommunication Act, 2023, and the Telecommunications (Temporary Suspension of Services) Rules, 2024.
The order was issued by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, Satyabrata Sahu.
