The situation in Cuttack city continues to remain peaceful following recent unrest in the Dargha Baazar area, informed Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh. After assessing the ground reality, the CP expressed satisfaction over the restoration of normalcy.

The Police Commissioner, while addressing the media, said there have been no reports of fresh violence or untoward incidents in the city.

“Cuttack remains peaceful. There are no signs of disturbance. We are constantly monitoring the situation, and any attempt to disrupt peace will be dealt with firmly,” he warned.

He further added that the curfew may not be extended if the peaceful environment continues. “If people cooperate and peace is maintained, there will be no need to prolong the curfew,” he assured.

“The situation is peaceful in Cuttack now. Curfew has been imposed since last night. There have been no reports of any untoward incident since then. We are monitoring the situation. Police personnel have been deployed everywhere. Anybody trying to break the law will be dealt with as per the law. People are safe now,” informed Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh.

“As of now, we have arrested eight people. This operation is being conducted surgically. We are monitoring CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators,” the CP added.

Commenting on lifting the curfew, the CP said, “We have currently imposed a 36-hour curfew. Now, the situation is peaceful. If things continue as peacefully, we will not have the need to extend the curfew. However, if there is anything untoward found during the review meeting tomorrow, the curfew will be extended. But, I’m confident normalcy will be restored soon.”

Meanwhile, heavy police deployment continues in sensitive areas like Dargha Baazar, Malgodown, and Choudhury Bazaar to prevent any flare-up. The administration has appealed to the public to maintain calm and avoid spreading rumours.
