In the wake of the recent unrest in Cuttack, police have arrested eight people for their alleged involvement in violence, vandalism, and attacks on law enforcement personnel, Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh confirmed on Monday.
Officials said the arrests were made after CCTV footage and other evidence from the clash sites were examined. The accused are currently being interrogated for their roles in instigating the violence and damaging public and private property.
Speaking to the media, Singh said, “We clamped curfew for 36 hours in the city after stones were pelted at police during a rally. Things are normal now. We are monitoring the situation. We have deployed forces so that people will feel safe and secure.”
“No incident of disturbances has been reported so far. We have identified the troublemakers, and the process to arrest them has been initiated. So far, eight people have been arrested. Some individuals are also coming up to lodge FIR.
The curfew is clamped in 13 police jurisdictions in the city,” the top cop informed.
Notably, 60 platoons of police force has been deployed across the city. In addition, eight companies of paramilitary forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), BSF, CRPF, and Odisha Swift Action Force, have been mobilised and stationed at key locations and sensitive junctions to ensure public safety and prevent any further unrest.
