The Commissionerate Police on Sunday issued a public advisory urging citizens to remain cautious and not believe or circulate fake videos and rumours on social media regarding the recent clash in Cuttack during Durga Puja idol immersion ceremony.
Refuting the false claims of a person’s death in the incident, the police clarified that no fatalities have occurred.
“In the course of the clash, four individuals sustained injuries. Of these, three (Pintu Mahar, Mukesh Mahar and Subhashree Jena) have been discharged following treatment on 4th October. The fourth person (Sankar Biswal) remains under medical care and is currently stable, talking and not in any danger. No fatalities have occurred in connection with this incident,” the Commissionerate Police tweeted.

The Commissionerate Police also cautioned that certain individuals and groups are spreading “false narratives to incite hate, fear, and disrupt communal harmony.”
Officials said that social media platforms are being closely monitored, and strict legal action will be taken against those spreading misinformation.
Citizens have been urged to act responsibly, avoid forwarding unverified messages, and report any suspicious or inflammatory content to the authorities.

Notably, a 36-hour curfew, which was imposed at 10 pm on Sunday, remains in force in Cuttack, while internet services remain suspended till 7 pm.
