A shocking case of ragging and torture emerged from a private school hostel in Barapurikia in Nayagarh district, where a minor student was allegedly subjected to relentless beating by senior students. The disturbing incident, recorded on video, has rapidly spread across social media, sparking widespread outrage.
Relentless Beating Ignoring Pleas
According to reports, three tenth-standard students allegedly assaulted an eighth-standard boy using a plastic pipe and a cricket bat. Despite the younger student repeatedly begging for forgiveness, the attackers refused to stop. The brutal thrashing left him blood-soaked and with a fractured hand.
In the hostel, which houses around 140 students from Classes V to X, the incident has raised serious questions about safety, supervision and discipline.

Management Denies Knowledge
When questioned, the hostel owner claimed ignorance about the incident, stating that he was unaware of any such wrongdoing. However, the viral video contradicted those assertions, prompting swift police intervention.
"Three students assaulted the minor boy. The victim is a Class 8 student, and he was beaten by three Class 10 students. Their stated reason was that the younger boy had allegedly threatened them, which they claim prompted the attack,” said Binaya Ranjan Parida, IIC, Daspalla Police Station.
Police Action Underway
Following the circulation of the video, Daspalla Police detained all three accused students, along with the hostel owner and teacher Rashmiranjan Pattanaik, for questioning. Investigations are ongoing to determine accountability and lapses in oversight.
This horrifying episode highlights the urgent need for stronger monitoring and anti-ragging measures in private hostels. As authorities continue their probe, parents and the public demand strict action to ensure such inhumane acts are never repeated.
