Class 7 student ‘raped’ in Kendrapara, police begin probe

A sexual assault allegation involving a Class 7 student of a private English medium school has been reported under the jurisdiction of Rajkanika police station area of Kendrapara district.

The incident came to light after the victim’s mother submitted a written complaint to the Kendrapara District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Wednesday.

CWC Investigation

Taking the matter seriously, the CWC visited the school premises and began an investigation. Officials examined the surroundings and initiated inquiries into the allegations.

“We received the complaint on February 18 and launched the investigation on February 19, as it is a sensitive matter. We have recorded the statement of the survivor and visited the school for an inquiry,” said Swagatika Patra, chairman of the Child Welfare Committee, Kendrapara.

Police Action

Meanwhile, Rajkanika police also launched their own inquiry. Three teachers and a female assistant from the school were taken to the police station for questioning and are currently being detained for interrogation. Police also visited the victim’s residence to conduct further investigation.

At the time of reporting, no response had been received from the school authorities or the police regarding the incident.
