In a significant development in the Choudwar jail escape case, Madhukant Rana, a criminal from Bihar who had escaped from Choudwar Circle Jail, has been taken on a six-day police remand for intensive interrogation.
The court granted permission for the remand to enable investigators to uncover the full details surrounding the daring jailbreak and subsequent escape across state borders.
According to police sources, Rana was arrested two days ago from Vrindavan following a coordinated operation. After being brought back to Odisha, investigators sought his custody to question him regarding the sequence of events that led to the escape and the possible involvement of accomplices.
During the six-day remand period, police are expected to grill Rana on several crucial aspects of the case. Investigators aim to determine how he managed to flee from the high-security Choudwar jail, who assisted him in executing the escape, and whether there was any internal support that facilitated the breakout. Authorities are also probing how Rana and his associates managed to cross the Odisha border and escape to another state without being detected.

Rana’s interrogation could reveal a larger network of individuals who may have provided logistical or financial support. The police are particularly focused on identifying any collaborators who helped him evade capture and reach Vrindavan.
While Madhukant Rana has been apprehended, the main accused in the case, Raja Sahani, remains absconding. Law enforcement agencies have intensified their search operations to trace Sahani and bring him to justice.
