Chikiti PEO dies after consuming poison amid misconduct allegation

A Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) from Chikiti, who had allegedly consumed poison, passed away while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Dandapani Patra. According to sources, he was admitted to MKCG after reportedly consuming poison. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed during treatment.

The incident has drawn attention after it came to light that an Additional Tehsildar had recently levelled allegations of inappropriate behaviour against the PEO.

According to official sources, the Additional Tahsildar had allegedly accused the PEO of misconduct during a marathon organised on February 3 as part of a local festival. Following the incident, the Additional Tahsildar approached the Internal Complaints Committee and also lodged an FIR at Golanthara police station in connection with the alleged misbehaviour.

After the matter was taken up by the Internal Complaints Committee, it was alleged that the PEO consumed poison. He was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for treatment in a critical condition.
