The CRUT-operated bus, travelling from Matiapada to Atharnala, had hit the elderly woman, causing serious injuries to her leg. She was immediately rushed to Puri hospital. Considering the severity of her condition, doctors had later referred her to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

The incident had sparked anger among residents, who staged a road blockade demanding immediate intervention from the local administration.

Irate protesters had alleged that the condition of Nabakalebar Road in the town is extremely poor and poses a constant threat to pedestrians and commuters.
