Cash theft in front of bank in Cuttack: 2 arrested, Rs 3 lakh recovered

In a major breakthrough, the Salipur Police on Monday arrested two robbers in connection with a recent theft that occurred outside a bank in Cuttack district.

The incident had reportedly taken place a few days ago, when a group of miscreants reportedly broke open the dickey of a parked vehicle in front of UCO Bank, Salipur, and escaped with cash amounting to Rs 1 lakh. Following the incident, the victim lodged an FIR, prompting police to begin an intensive investigation.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, a special police team traced the suspects to the Aska area and subsequently apprehended the duo. During the raid, police recovered more than Rs 3 lakh from their possession.

"We conducted a raid to apprehend the looters, and our team successfully managed to arrest two of the accused. One of them has a history of involvement in at least four theft cases in the Cuttack district. A total of six persons are suspected of being linked to the Salipur loot case. During the raid at a slum area, the remaining accused managed to escape," said Salipur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Biranchi Narayan Pati.
