Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Angul cyber police station had a narrow escape on December 18 after a bus was allegedly driven at him in what is suspected to be a deliberate attempt to kill him. Police have registered a criminal case and launched an investigation into the incident. The officer has been identified as Khaleswar Sethi.
According to police sources, the incident took place at around 11.30 pm when Inspector Sethi was returning home after duty. As he was passing through Budhi Thakurani Chhak, a bus allegedly sped towards him, with the driver attempting to run him over.
Inspector Sethi managed to step aside at the last moment, thereby escaping serious injury. Police officials said the manner in which the vehicle approached the officer indicated a possible deliberate act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances and identify those involved.
Verbal Abuse, Caste-Based Remarks Alleged
The complaint further states that after the failed attempt, the bus driver, along with two other individuals travelling in the vehicle, got down and confronted the officer. During the altercation, the accused allegedly hurled verbal abuse and made caste-based derogatory remarks at Inspector Sethi.
Following the confrontation, the officer alerted the Angul police station about the incident. Acting on the information, another police officer reached the spot and ensured his safety.
Inspector Sethi subsequently lodged a formal complaint at the police station on Friday. Based on his statement, the police have registered a case and initiated a probe into the matter.
Case Registered, Accused Being Traced
Police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events, identify the bus involved, and trace the driver and the two other persons named in the complaint. CCTV footage from the area and other technical evidence are being examined as part of the investigation.

Senior officials stated that further action will be taken after the completion of the preliminary investigation and the identification of the accused. However, as of the last reports, the accused are yet to be traced.
