In a major development, a brown sugar dealer has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The Bhubaneswar ADJ Special Court–III has awarded a sentence of 20 years in prison along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh to the notorious brown sugar dealer S.K. Hasim.

As per reports, the court further ruled that if the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional two years of rigorous imprisonment.

According to the case details, the accused S.K. Hasim, a resident of the Jaleswar area in Balasore district, was caught while illegally selling brown sugar near the Baramunda Bus Stand in Bhubaneswar on October 30, 2020.

Acting on reliable information, STF authorities apprehended Hasim red-handed during the illicit drug trade.

After hearing the case and examining the evidence, the court pronounced the conviction and awarded the punishment in connection with this case.

"The verdict in the case was announced today. STF Inspector Jagannath Sahu had arrested S.K. Hasim in front of Raj Electronics near Baramunda Bus Stand in Bhubaneswar. Approximately 1.117 kg of brown sugar was seized from him," said Special Public Prosecutor Rashmi Ranjan Bramha.
