Security arrangements at the Orissa High Court were significantly intensified on Friday following a series of bomb threats to three district courts in Cuttack, Sambalpur & Deogarh, triggering heightened alert across several court premises in Odisha.
Precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of judicial officers, lawyers, staff, and the general public visiting the courts.
Platoons Of Armed Forces Deployed
As part of the enhanced security protocol, an additional three-and-a-half platoons of armed forces have been deployed in and around the High Court premises. Metal detectors have been installed at strategic locations, and security personnel have been instructed to conduct thorough screening of everyone entering and exiting the court complex.
Special focus has been placed on entry and exit points, where checks have been made more stringent to prevent any untoward incident.
The security measures have not been limited to the High Court alone. The Cuttack District Judge Court has also been placed under heightened security cover as a precautionary step. Police personnel and armed forces are maintaining a constant vigil across the premises, while surveillance has been strengthened to monitor any suspicious movement.
Bomb Explosion Threats
The intensified security follows threatening emails received by the district courts of Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Deogarh. The emails warned of possible bomb explosions within the court premises, causing concern among court authorities and law enforcement agencies. Immediately after receiving the threats, police and bomb disposal squads conducted extensive searches of all three court complexes.
However, after detailed inspections, no explosives or suspicious materials were found at any of the locations. Officials later confirmed that the threatening emails were hoaxes. Despite this, authorities have decided to maintain strict security measures to avoid any potential risk and to reassure the public.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the threatening emails and identify those responsible for creating panic.
