Following bomb threat disruptions at district courts in Sambalpur, Cuttack and Deogarh on Thursday, the Odisha Police swung into action. Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh confirmed that both agencies would work together to investigate the matter.
Authorities will examine technical and digital evidence to determine the origin of the email and assess the credibility of the threat.
"An email was received, following which all concerned units were immediately alerted. Within a short span of time, the email was examined by our cyber wing through a multi-layer scanning process, and evacuation was carried out as a precaution. Subsequently, a special tactical unit was deployed and conducted a thorough search with full security arrangements. The dog squad and bomb disposal squad were also pressed into service. With the assistance of the CRP wing, the operation was completed swiftly, and the premises were declared safe. Our cyber team has initiated a detailed investigation, and the Honourable Director General also visited the site for inspection. The Crime Branch has been directed to assist, as it functions as the nodal cyber unit. After completing the investigation, further decisions will be taken,” said Twin City Police Commissioner S. Meanwhile, Court proceedings across several districts in Odisha returned to normal on Thursday after a temporary disruption caused by bomb threat emails sent to multiple district courts. The district courts of Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Deogarh resumed regular functioning following extensive security checks conducted by law enforcement agencies.
The district courts in the three locations received threatening emails earlier in the day, warning of bomb explosions within the court premises. The emails immediately triggered panic and prompted authorities to place the court complexes under high alert. As a precautionary measure, court activities were suspended, and people present inside the premises were asked to vacate.
Following the threats, anti-bomb squads, dog squads, and police teams were rushed to the court premises. Security personnel conducted thorough inspections of courtrooms, corridors, offices, and surrounding areas to rule out any potential danger. After hours of intensive searches, no suspicious objects or explosive materials were found at any of the locations.
Ensuring Safety
As of now, officials assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure public safety while the investigation continues, underlining the seriousness with which such threats are being treated.
