An Odia woman was allegedly raped and murdered in the Kompally area under the Pet-Basheerabad police limits in Hyderabad late Thursday night. The victim, originally from Bharatpur in Bhubaneswar, had reportedly been living in Hyderabad with her husband and four-year-old son for the past six months.
According to preliminary information, the woman and her family were residing in the quarters of a private construction company in Kompally, where her husband worked in the electronic maintenance division. She had been teaching the children of company workers while living with her husband and son in the same premises.
Her husband, who had recently secured a job in Dubai, had travelled to Bhubaneswar last Saturday with their son to correct a discrepancy in his passport before joining his new posting. The couple had planned to reunite after his paperwork was cleared.
However, tragedy struck late Wednesday night when the husband reportedly received a call from one of his company’s employees informing him that his wife had fallen ill. Alarmed, he flew to Hyderabad this morning, only to learn that his wife had died under suspicious circumstances.
Mother Shares Eyewitness Accounts
The woman’s family has lodged a complaint with the Pet-Basheerabad police, alleging that she was sexually assaulted and murdered. They have also approached the Khordha district Collector in Odisha, seeking an impartial probe and swift justice.
The mother of the deceased woman narrated her ordeal and brought forward several allegations, which she claimed were crucial leads in the investigation.
She alleged that on Thursday night, a man entered the woman’s quarters and hid under the bed. Unaware of this, the woman went to sleep, but was subsequently raped and murdered by the yet-unidentified man.
She further said that her claims were based on records shared by the woman’s neighbours, who spotted the accused, allegedly in an inebriated condition, walking out of the quarters.
The mother of the deceased woman also alleged that the company, where her husband works and in whose staff quarters the incident took place, is trying to suppress the matter and pass it off as suicide. She added that she had spoken to her daughter on the night of the incident and found no trace of mental agony.
Investigation Underway
Meanwhile, Pet-Basheerabad police confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is in progress to determine the cause of death and identify those involved. Forensic experts have been called in to assist with evidence collection from the scene. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
The incident has caused widespread outrage, coming close on the heels of another case involving the gang-rape of an Odisha student in West Bengal earlier last week.
As of the last reports, no arrests have been made, but Telangana police have assured that all possible angles, including sexual assault and murder, are being investigated.
