‘Be self-reliant, focus on health’: Cancer specialist Dr. Sangram Keshari Panda’s advice on Women’s Day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, cancer specialist Dr. Sangram Keshari Panda on Sunday advised women to remain self-reliant and maintain good health. 

He stated that the development of society largely depends on the well-being of women. If women remain healthy, society as a whole can progress in a positive direction. Therefore, he urged women to be more attentive towards their health.

Dr Panda particularly emphasised the need for greater awareness and caution regarding cancer among women. He advised them to adopt preventive measures and remain vigilant about early detection and treatment. He stressed that prioritising health and regular medical check-ups can help women lead healthier and more empowered lives.

“International Women’s Day is observed to promote the social and economic empowerment of women and to raise awareness about their rights and well-being. However, one crucial aspect that often does not receive adequate attention is women’s health. Among various health concerns, cancer remains one of the most serious threats to women. The most common cancers affecting women are breast cancer, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer. These diseases can be life-threatening if not detected and treated at an early stage. To address this issue, the government has initiated vaccination programmes. Women up to 35 years of age are eligible to receive this vaccination,” said cancer specialist Dr Sangram Keshari Panda.

“Therefore, it is extremely important for women to remain aware and informed about cancer. Understanding the symptoms and undergoing regular health check-ups can help in early detection. When cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, treatment becomes more effective and the chances of recovery increase significantly,” he added.
