The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) suffered a major political jolt in Subarnapur district with the resignation of three leaders from the party on Tuesday. The most notable exits are Ramesh Pujari and Umesh Pujari, two nephews of Sonepur MLA Niranjan Pujari, who have decided to part ways with the Opposition party.

Along with them, Rampur sarpanch Manoj Purohit has also resigned from the BJD. All three leaders have cited personal reasons for their decision to quit the party. However, their sudden exit has sparked strong political discussions within the district.

Ramesh Pujari was the BJD district vice-president, and Manoj Purohit was the district youth BJD vice-president.

According to sources, from Niranjan Pujari’s own panchayat Rampur, his nephews Ramesh and Umesh, along with Rampur sarpanch and president of Dunguripali sarpanch association, Manoj—three young BJD leaders—have resigned. This is being discussed in the district as something that could create new political equations.

Sources indicate that the resigned leaders were actively involved in grassroots-level work and played key roles during the 2024 General Elections, particularly supporting MLA Niranjan Pujari at the ground level. Their departure is being seen as a potential challenge for the party’s organisational strength in the region.

Following the three resignations, political circles in Subarnapur are abuzz with speculation over the reasons behind the move and its possible impact on upcoming political strategies. The development is being closely watched, especially given the leaders’ close association with the sitting MLA and their influence at the local level.

“We two brothers were engaged only in BJD organisational works. My help was taken, and I have always been used in Binika and Dunguripali blocks,” Ramesh Pujari said to OTV.
