Bhubaneswar: Covid-19 cases continued to show a declining trend in Odisha with 2546 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. This is State's lowest number of fresh infections in over last month and a half.

New Corona cases stood at 2239 on August 17, the lowest as compared to the latest figures of fresh cases released by the State I&PR Department.

Of the new cases reported in the last 24 hours, 1504 patients are from quarantine, while 1042 are local contact cases, informed the department.

As per data available with the I&PR Department, Odisha recorded 4356 positives, its highest single-day new infections on September 25.

The total Covid-19 cases in the State have now risen to 252239 which include 26891 active cases and 224273 recoveries while the death toll touched 1022.

Khordha reported the maximum 410 new cases today followed by Angul (208 cases), Sundergarh (161), Cuttack (134), Mayurbhanj (120) and Balasore (103).

In terms of death cases, at least 16 persons undergoing treatment in various hospitals succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours taking the State's death toll to 1022, informed the State Health Department.

As per the H&FW department's data, while five deaths were reported from Khordha district (3 from Bhubaneswar), four deaths from Balasore district, 2 deaths each from Dhenkanal and Khordha and 1 each from Gajapti, Kendrapada, Kalahandi, Koraput and Puri districts.

Official reports reveal 45079 samples were tested on Saturday for COVID-19 taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the state to 3755671.
