Kalahandi: The family members of a Covid-19 infected patient alleged negligence on part of the District Headquarter Hospital, Kalahandi behind his death here on Saturday.

Resentment brewed among the family members over the alleged fact that the transfer of the diabetic patient, who was being treated in the hospital, was delayed for four hours despite testing positive for Covid-19.

They staged a dharna in front of the medical alleging that the irresponsible behaviour of the medical authorities is the main reason behind the patient's death.

"Because of the negligence of the medical authorities I lost my husband," stated a crest-fallen wife of the deceased.

However Kalahandi Collector G Parag Harshad refuted the allegations by the family members.

"The diabetic patient, who was getting treatment in the hospital, had multiple co-morbidities. Earlier he was referred to Veer Surendra Sai Institute Of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) Hospital, but the family members refused to take him there. Later when he tested positive for Covid-19, he was quickly shifted to Covid hospital. But on the way he passed away." Harshad said adding that no neglect has been made in his treatment.
