Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to run temporary shelters for homeless persons at government schools in the Capital city.

In a letter to the Block Education Officer (BEO), the BMC stated that the State Housing and Urban Development Department 'has instructed to run temporary shelter for homeless persons to avoid mishap in view of current winter'.

"It has come to the notice of BMC that some of the labourers are residing roadside near Nayapalli Durga Mandap and Cuttack Road near Kalpana Square. So, BMC has decided to run two temporary shelters in government nodal UP school, sector-6, IRC Village, Nayapalli and Station Bazar UP school, Budheswari which will be operated by VIKASH and OPUS respectively," reads the letter.

The BEO has been directed to make necessary arrangement for providing keys of at least three rooms (of the aforementioned schools) initially to the officials of the zonal deputy commissioner, south-west zone and south-east zome, BMC respectively to operate the temporary shelter immediately.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) prediction on Monday, the cold wave conditions will once again sweep Odisha after New Year.

As per the latest bulletin issued by IMD’s regional centre, there will be no change in minimum temperature (night temperature) in Odisha during the next 48 hours.

“The minimum temperature will fall by 2 to 3 degree Celsius and it will be below normal by 3 to 5 degrees after December 31, 2020,” the IMD bulletin read.
