Bhubaneswar: The calamitous impact of cyclone Fani has brought the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to a standstill for more than six hours after the extremely severe cyclonic storm hit Odisha on May 3.
The residents of the capital city had never witnessed such devastating natural calamity in the last two decades, where mobile phone towers and street-light posts were getting uprooted and signboards, tin and asbestos sheets were flying like tiny objects under the impact of high velocity winds.
The slum dwellers in the Smart City Bhubaneswar were the worst sufferers. Apart from massive damage to houses with tin and asbestos sheets, the cyclone even razed strong walls of several multi-storied apartments in the city.

Several trees on Palasuni-Khandagiri, Nandankanan-Airport road and other parts across the city were uprooted by the strong rooms.
The Unit-2 market, the largest market in Bhubaneswar also bore the brunt of cyclone Fani as property worth lakhs of rupees have been damaged.
Kalinga Stadium in the city also faced the wrath of cyclone Fani.
Apart from Bhubaneswar, the silver city of Cuttack also witnessed large-scale damage in the cyclone Fani. People are facing problems in accessing drinking water as electricity is yet to be restored in Cuttack.
Several teams of NDRF, ODRAF and fire brigades have been pressed into service for relief and restoration work and the teams are working round-the-clock to put life back on the track in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
