Puri: At a time when instances of wild animals being killed for their body parts continue to do rounds often, an act of utmost compassion by two friends towards an injured baby monkey in Odisha is flooding the internet with notes of heartfelt thanks.

Two friends from Bhubaneswar who were on their way to Konark turned godsend for the injured animal, a kind-hearted rescue video of which is being lauded and shared on various social media platforms.

The incident took place on September 29 when Sanyasi Raita and Bikash Dash, two friends from Bhubaneswar were heading towards Konark on their motorbike to have fun at Chandrabhaga Beach.

On their way, the two saw a monkey bleeding from its head and groaning in pain on the roadside near Begunia under Gop block of Puri district. They also saw some stray dogs dragging the helpless animal from its neck. The monkey was believed to have been hit by some vehicle.

The duo initially thought the baby monkey would be rescued by someone and left the spot. However, after heading some metres, their conscience did not permit them to leave the injured monkey, and therefore- Sanyasi and Bikash returned and rescued it.

The two then gave some water, food, and glucose to the baby monkey after which it regained consciousness. They also cleaned its wound and took the monkey to Konark Veterinary Hospital.

But as the hospital was closed, a person identified as Anil Kumar Swain of Jagatsinghpur district who was present at the spot expressed his desire in getting the animal treated and took it from them.

Anil later got the animal treated from a local veterinary hospital in Jagatsinghpur and took it to his home. Anil’s family members were also overwhelmed by seeing the animal and named it ‘Maruti’.

They took good care of the animal and a couple of days after the baby monkey recovered, Anil on the advice of his co-villagers and concerned panchayat officials released the animal in a nearby forest.

Sanyasi, Bikash, and Anil’s love for animals and efforts to save a life is definitely an example for others.
