Kendrapara: A Village Level Worker (VLW) of Golarhat Panchayat in Kendrapara district of Odisha was allegedly attacked by a group of men on Monday for denying illegal sanction of a house under Indira Awas Yojana.
As per reports, the main accused behind the attack had been forcing the VLW Nihar Ranjan Thatoi to pass two bills for houses sanctioned under the Indira Awas Yojana.
However, when Nihar repeatedly denied getting involved in such illegal act, the accused along with five other persons intercepted the VLW near Chata chhak (while he was returning to his home at Bilamugbadi from office) and attacked him.
Nihar reportedly sustained grievous injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital in Kendrapara.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered with the Sadar Police in connection with the incident.
