Bhubaneswar: After frontline health workers including doctors and nurses, Odisha Police personnel are now found to be COVID-19 positive which has now emerged as a major cause of concern for the department dealing with the pandemic.

As per reports, two senior officials of Ganjam police including SDPO and IIC of Chhatrapur police station tested positive for COVID-19.

Confirming the development, Ganjam SP Brijesh Ray said, “Our two officers have tested positive for COVID-19. The officers had no symptoms and as per protocol, they are now in home quarantine.”

Ray further informed that contact tracing of the two officers is on.

“Our police stations are being sanitised on a regular basis and our personnel have been provided with face shields and masks. As per instructions, we are taking measures to deal with any situation arising out of the COVID-19 situation,” said Ray.

Earlier, a Havildar of Motu border check post in Malkangiri had tested positive for coronavirus.

With two more police personnel testing positive for COVID-19 in Ganjam, the tally in the district has reached 678. As many as 20 new positive cases were reported from the district in the last 24 hours.

Ganjam Collector informed that at least 11 Corona warriors have tested positive for COVID-19 in the district.
