Kendrapara: At least eight persons including two doctors were arrested on Saturday on the charges of attacking police personnel and a working journalist in Kendrapara district.

As per reports, the two doctors of a private nursing home misbehaved and beat up two police officials including a Sub-Inspector when they had gone to inquire the alleged assault on a working journalist yesterday.

Sources said, the doctors and their staff first misbehaved and assaulted a working journalist when he had reportedly gone to see a patient at around 8:30 pm yesterday.

On seeing that several attendants had gathered at one place, the journalist clicked a picture which irked the staff of the nursing home.

Later the two doctors- Sibashish and Debashish Sahu along with other staff of the nursing home allegedly thrashed the journalist, snatched his mobile phone and ransacked his motorcycle.

After some people informed police about the matter, a Sub-Inspector along with another cop reached the spot to inquire about the incident. However, the two doctors and their staff allegedly attacked them too.

“When I tried to click a picture as there was violation of COVID-19 social distancing norm in the hospital, the two doctors and their staff misbehaved with me, thrashed me and took away my mobile phone,” said Sunil Mohapatra, journalist of a regional electronic media.

Jyotiranjan Samantray, Officer-In-Charge of Kendrapara Town Police said, “A Sub-Inspector was misbehaved and beaten up when he had gone to inquire the allegations levelled by the journalist. We have registered two separate cases and eight persons have been arrested.”
