Puri: With an aim to bring back economy on track amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Odisha government is working on a concrete master plan for development of tourism sector which provides livelihood support to lakhs of people in the State.

Official sources said development of the tourism infrastructure in Konark remains a priority and steps are being taken for gradual reopening of facilities for tourists with COVID-19 restrictions.

Puri Collector Balwant Singh informed that a decision on reopening of Konark Sun Temple will be taken after reviewing all the recent guidelines of the Centre and Odisha government for Unlock 3.

Singh along with the State Tourism Director Sachin Ramchandra Yadav and other officials recently visited Konark and took stock of the facilities at Sun Temple, Chandrabhaga beach, Ram Chandi pitha, Urban Haat and other destinations.

“The people in Konark have adhered to the guidelines in the last four months. People also need to remain cautious and take necessary steps at personal level to fight COVID-19. We are focusing on livelihood of people during the Unlock 3 phase,” said Singh.

Singh further stated that efforts are on to review the tourism infrastructure which are presently idle and addressing the basic issues on a priority basis.

The Puri Collector informed that administration will augment resources for implementation of plans proposed for the allround development of Konark.
